What is InterLock?
InterLock by Context Data is a governance layer placed between AI agents and production data. Agents connect to InterLock instead of connecting directly to databases, file stores or APIs, using protocols they already speak: the Model Context Protocol, the Postgres wire protocol and HTTP. Each agent gets its own identity and key, and access is decided per source and, for SQL sources, per table and column. SQL is parsed before it runs, and anything the role does not allow is refused.
In practice, InterLock authorizes every request by role and policy, redacts personal data such as national ID numbers in results before the agent sees them, and classifies each write by risk. Routine inserts pass through, while updates, unbounded deletes and schema changes wait for a reviewer who approves or rejects them in the console, optionally with a Slack notification. Every allowed or denied request is written to an append-only audit log that can be exported as CSV. It deploys inside your own environment with Docker Compose or Kubernetes with Helm, and agents need only a connection-string change.
Key features
- Role-based access control down to table and column level
- Automatic redaction of personal data in query results
- Risk classification of writes with human approval queue
- Append-only audit log of every request with CSV export
- Support for MCP, Postgres wire protocol and HTTP
- Self-hosted deployment via Docker Compose or Kubernetes with Helm
Who is it for
- Engineering teams running AI agents against production data
- Data and security teams that need governed access to databases
- Companies needing audit trails for AI agent actions
Pros and cons
- Works with existing agents by changing only the connection string
- Deny-by-default access model with per-column control
- Transparent public status page for each capability
- Many capabilities are still in public beta, one is disabled and three are planned
