What is Kiro?
Kiro is an AI development tool built and operated by AWS. Its main idea is spec-driven development: a prompt is turned into requirements, architectural designs and sequenced tasks, which the agents then implement. Before code is written, Kiro checks requirements for contradictions and gaps using automated reasoning, and it verifies behavior with property-based tests that assert rules across many inputs instead of a few examples.
In practice you can plan features with specs, run multiple agents in parallel on your local machine or in the cloud, and pull context from tools such as Figma or Terraform. The headless Kiro CLI can also run in CI/CD to review pull requests and fix bugs without an editor. Users can pick a model per task or let Auto choose one, and the tool supports AGENTS.md, MCP and Open VSX extensions.
