What is CiteMe?

CiteMe is a web-based citation and reference checker for students and researchers. You paste a DOI, PMID, ISBN, URL, paper title or topic, and it searches scholarly indexes such as OpenAlex, CrossRef, Semantic Scholar and PubMed for a matching source record. The metadata it finds is then formatted into the citation style you choose, and the page shows which source the metadata came from.

Beyond single citations, you can check an existing bibliography for missing matches, broken identifiers and unverified records, and extract references from a PDF into structured data for export to BibTeX or RIS. Browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari are also offered. Results that fall back to generated metadata are labeled as needing review.
