What is waifu2x?
waifu2x is a web tool for super-resolution, meaning it enlarges images and reduces noise using deep convolutional neural networks. The site describes it as built for anime-style art, and it also handles photographs. You upload an image by drag and drop or file selection, choose a style (Art, Art/Scans, or Photo), set the noise reduction level from none to highest, and pick a scale factor of 1.6x, 2x, or 4x. The result can be downloaded as PNG or WebP.
The site sets limits: files up to 5MB, noise reduction up to 3000x3000px, and upscaling up to 1500x1500px. The page advises matching the noise setting to the image, since skipping noise reduction on a noisy photo can make it worse, and high settings on JPEG sources may leave compression artifacts.
