Snowflake Cortex AI is a set of generative AI services built into the Snowflake AI Data Cloud. It gives access to hosted large language models such as Anthropic Claude, Meta Llama and Mistral Large 2 through serverless SQL functions and APIs, so data does not have to be moved out of Snowflake's secure perimeter.
In practice you can call AI functions directly in SQL to analyse text, images and audio alongside structured tables, use Cortex Analyst to convert natural language questions into SQL, and build agents that combine structured and unstructured sources. Governance, access controls and observability from Snowflake apply to these AI workloads as well, and built-in guardrails help reduce harmful content.
